Summary:  Ned is celebrating his birthday when he gets an unexpected video call from his daughter. He sees his daughter is dating a total freak. That worries him. The family decides they must visit their daughter, Stephanie, in california. When there they see that the boyfriend isn’t just a freak he’s a muti millionaire app developer. The boyfriend has no filter and that makes Ned feel afraid for his daughter .

The Good: I do kind of like James Franco in the film. He’s the only one in the film that’s giving funny things to do,. I kind of like the themes of out with the old and in with the new. I think the scenes when Gustav and Laird are forced to fight are kind of cool looking.

The Bad:  The son in this film has to be the worst character in movies this year. He’s a brat who only yells sexist jokes and the actor has no comedic timing. When giving horrible lines about Game of Thrones and Dragons he can’t do anything. He was asked to sink or swim in four feet water and he drowned so quickly that you wonder why they even threw him in.

This film has been done, and it’s been done better. It’s one of those R rated comedies that appeals to older people. That’s why I was surprised by some of the themes. This movie wasn’t made for the youth. There is no way. It plays it to safe in many aspects. This is the 3rd holiday film this year that has a punchline with balls. That’s the standard of comedy this movie has.

The Ugly: Writing about this movie has actually physically gotten me mad. I had originally given this film ZZZ, but just remembering how terrible that intro scene was, how dated the jokes were, and just how weirdly sexist it was got me furious. This is one of the worst films of the year and I hope nobody watches it. Watch the other two bad holiday films. At least those don’t try so hard to be hip. Also the ending of this movie might be the worst part. A movie all about tech and the future thinks a dated idea is going to save a whole company. That’s all I’ll say.

Film In Austin’s Review Grading Scale

No Zs – A solid, outstanding movie; there wasn’t an snoozing in this movie
Z – Good movie, sometimes the story may be lacking in some area, but it’s still recommended; only fell asleep for a quarter of the movie
ZZ – Average, entertaining at parts, it may be worth seeing, but you will probably want to wait and rent it; fell asleep for half of the film
ZZZ – Very weak where entertainment, plot, realism, development and other vital elements are missing; fell asleep for a third of the movie
ZZZZ – Very poor to the point that you will only recommend for your family and friends “not to see it;” fell asleep right when the movie began and slept through the whole thing.  Well, you will wish you had spent that time sleeping
